Equine Newsletter - February 2011 Power Teeth FloatingAlthough it has been extremely cold and snowy this winter, we have been busy investing in new technology to improve the quality care we provide for our equine friends. Our power float is very unique because it uses water to cool the teeth, much as a dentist does when he or she works on your teeth. Ultrasound and PRPThis winter we purchased a new piece of equipment. We are very excited about using our brand new digital ultrasound. It will provide us with some of the best images in the industry. The ultrasound will allow us to diagnosis tendon tears and other soft tissue injuries. We will be able to follow the healing progress of a bowed tendon or torn ligament. Our new machine will enable us to take measurements and manipulate images, just like using a digital camera. Ultrasound and MesotherapyThis will save your horse stress and save you time and money. PRP is a regenerative therapy that uses a horse’s own healing factors to increase the speed of recovery. It has been shown to contain numerous growth factors which act as a physical scaffold that aids in tissue healing. A little blood is collected from your horse and injected into a high tech filtrate system, which concentrates the amount of platelets. Spring VaccinesAs we approach a busy season, Feeder Creek would like to remind you to schedule your annual spring vaccine appointments. It is important to keep your horse up-to-date before the mosquitoes are in the air. Every horse is different and requires a unique vaccine program based on his/her environment and travel schedule. All horses need to be vaccinated or have boosters at least once a year to protect against EEE and WEE (Eastern and Western Encephalomyelitis), West Nile Virus, Tetanus, Influenza, and Rhinopneumonitis (Flu/Rhino). Your horses can be vaccinated with one injection! Dental HealthHorses with dental problems may show obvious signs such as pain or irritation, or they may show no noticeable signs. Some horses simply adapt to their discomfort. For this reason, periodic dental examinations are essential to your horse’s health. Horse InsuranceWhat is it and why should I get it? Whether a horse is purchased for personal or business reasons, ownership represents a significant investment of time, money, and resources. While no one likes to think about the potential for tragedy, horses seem to be prone to illness, accidents, and injury. Should some peril befall your horse, nothing may ease the emotional burden, but wise planning can help reduce the economic impact. Horse Owner Educational SeminarWe are very proud to announce our yearly horse owner seminar that will be held, Wednesday, April 20th. |
